Ukraine claimed a 1-0 victory over
10-man England which boosted their hopes of qualifying for the 2010
World Cup in South Africa via the playoffs, according to CNN.
The
victory on Saturday saw Ukraine move a point ahead of Croatia into
second place in Group Six, and a win in their final game against
Andorra will put them into the playoffs.
England, who had a 100
percent qualifying record under Fabio Capello, produced a sub-standard
performance and were under constant pressure from the 13th minute when
goalkeeper Robert Green was sent off.
