Yushchenko refused to sign the re-adopted law on presidential elections

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenkohas refused to sign the law on presidential elections and returned it to the Verkhovna Rada. In the case of the law comes into force on Yushchenko vowed to appeal to the Constitutional Court, informs UNIAN.

Verkhovna Rada on August 21 re-enacted a law on presidential elections, breaking the previous veto of the president. Now, for the law came into force it must sign the parliament speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn.

Yushchenko believes the adopted amendments to the electoral law unconstitutional because they create opportunity for abuse, and did not allow to contest election results, by assigning to it a few days. The only situation in which the president agrees, it is shortening the campaign from 120 to 90 days.

Presidential elections are scheduled for Ukraine on 17 January 2010. The intention to run for the presidency have already declared Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych, and a number of other politicians.
