Navy of Russia and China held joint naval exercises in the Gulf of Aden, said the agency "Interfax" referring to the head of the press service of the Pacific Fleet Roman Martov. The exercise of the RF Navy attended a large anti-submarine ship (BPK), "Admiral Tributs" with the Chinese side - escorts "Chzhoshuan and Syuichzhou. According to Martov, during the exercise, held from 18 to 20 September in the Horn of Africa, have been worked out joint maneuvers, search and inspection of a pirate ship and cargo at sea, and also made a number of other tasks. According to Russia's Navy, all tasks were completed successfully and in full. After the exercises Russia and Chinese ships escorted the Gulf of Aden 23 civilian vessel, nine of which came under Russia's flag. BPK Admiral Tributs "together with the accompanying vessels, a tanker's Boris Booth" and the rescue tug SB-99, participates in the international mission to protect ships from pirate attacks in July 2009. This group of naval ships of Russia - is the third unit, which is sent to the Gulf of Aden to combat piracy. In October 2009 it will replace the fourth unit, the formation of which was launched in mid-September. Somali pirates intensified in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean in the spring of 2008. Eighteen years pirates have attacked dozens of times on international cargo and commercial vessels, some of which was captured. In the second half of 2008, UN Security Council approved a mechanism to combat pirates, allowing them to fight not only at sea but on land and by air. Currently, the Gulf of Aden region, in addition to the RF Navy ships, naval ships patrolling the NATO, EU, South Korea, Japan and India.
